Oracle interMedia is a feature of Oracle9i that is included in both standard edition and enterprise edition.

It is a general purpose feature that enables the efficient management, & retrieval of image, audio, and video data. interMedia has knowledge of the most popular multimedia formats and can automate metadata extraction and basic image processing.

interMedia increases programmer productivity when developing multimedia applications using JSPs, Servlets, PL/SQL or when using tools such as JDeveloper (BC4J/UIX) and Oracle Portal. interMedia enables multimedia data to be managed directly in Oracle9i under complete database control.

Alternately, Oracle9i can store and index meta-information together with external references that enable efficient access to media content stored outside the database.
