StarQuery
is an out-of-the-box reporting tool that enables users to
access and organize accurate information for enhanced analysis
and better decision-making. The simplicity of StarQuery means

From
Sales and Marketing, to Inventory and Accounting, StarQuery
enables end-users to simply drag and drop fields to produce
queries, eliminating the need for programming knowledge or
knowledge of the database structure.
Integrated into Microsoft Excel, StarQuery can create reports
from almost any database. StarQuery also provides a user-friendly

looking reports without needing to know a programming language.
StarQuery comes in two parts - StarQuery MapDesigner and
StarQuery for Excel.
StarQuery MapDesigner, managed by the database administrators,
enables the creation of a Map file - a functional view of
the database. StarQuery can access and query multiple database
systems such as Oracle, DB2, MS SQL, Access and many more.
These databases can reside on a variety of operating system
platforms, such as UNIX, iSeries (AS/400), AIX, Linux and
Windows. Within a Mapfile, administrators can select tables
from any database, link them together, create dimensions
and calculations, select certain fields, organize tables
and much more.
StarQuery offers a graphical representation of the database
and a built-in wizard to aid users through each step of
the querying process. This means that administrators don't
need to know the entire database structure or any programming
language to produce sophisticated queries. Tables can be
joined together by simply dragging and dropping fields or
alternatively, joins can be made automatically.
Once the Mapfile is complete an end-user can create a query
from the information provided, using StarQuery for Excel.
This means that end-users no longer need to access the entire
database to perform a database query. Instead, the query
is built in Excel using the Mapfile, which automatically
filters the query and limits searching only to relevant
fields. End-users can then drag and drop available information
to create their own customized query, which includes adding
their own conditions and measures. The query can then be
updated for real-time reporting with just the click of a
button.
